US FTC urges caution on "net neutrality" proposals

(Reuters) - Network neutrality proposals, backed by Internet content
companies like Google Inc. and eBay Inc. ,
would bar Internet providers from charging extra fees to
guarantee access to the Internet or give priority to some
content.




In a report, the FTC sided with high-speed Internet
providers such as AT&T and Verizon , saying the
government should be cautious about imposing such regulations.

Regulators look at two online ad takeovers: report

(Reuters) - So far, the FTC has not made "second requests" for extra
information from either Microsoft or Yahoo, the newspaper
reported. Those requests would suggest a closer level of
scrutiny.




A Microsoft spokesman told the Journal that the company is
"cooperating fully" and it looks "forward to addressing any
questions the FTC may have."

Record U.S. Gasoline Prices Are Result of Refining Disruptions, FTC Says

(Bloomberg) -- Record-high U.S. gasoline prices
appear to be due to refinery outages, increased demand and
decreased imports, the Federal Trade Commission said.

``The lion's share of the recent increase in gasoline prices
appears to be attributable to three factors: refinery outages,
increased demand for gasoline and decreased gasoline imports,''
William Kovacic, a commissioner with the FTC, said in prepared
comments to a House Energy subcommittee today.
