`Manhattan Ladies' Fight for Hong Kong School Slots as China Trade Booms

(Bloomberg) -- Judy Carline helps expatriates settle
in after they've transferred to Hong Kong. These days, she spends
most of her time helping anxious parents who are trying to get
their kids into international schools.

``This year is particularly bad,'' says Carline, a real
estate agent at Savills Plc. There are more of ``these bankers,
between 35 and 42, with young children. These days, people think
their 3-year-olds are going to Harvard. The Manhattan ladies, they
are the worst. They work themselves into a state.''

Refco examiner faults lawyers, auditors in collapse

(Reuters) - The examiner also said the law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges
LLP could be sued for failing to use appropriate care in its
representation of Refco, though this was also a close call.




Hochberg filed his report with the U.S. bankruptcy court in
Manhattan. His recommendations could provide grounds for
lawsuits by Refco creditors, many of whom received only a
fraction of the amounts they claimed they were owed.

Consolidated Edison Restores Power After Scattered New York City Failures

(Bloomberg) -- Consolidated Edison Inc., owner of
New York City's utility, said it restored power after scattered
failures in parts of Manhattan and the Bronx.

Power was lost to 136,700 homes and businesses, Consolidated
Edison spokesman Joe Petta said in a phone interview. The
disruption began at 3:42 p.m., and power was restored to all
customers by 4:30 p.m., he said. The affected areas were the
western part of the Bronx and Manhattan's Upper East Side.

JPMorgan to build headquarters at NY's WTC site

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, June 14 - JP Morgan Chase & Co. agreed to build its investment banking headquarters in lower Manhattan at the site of the World Trade Center complex that was destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer said on Thursday.



Spitzer told a news conference JP Morgan will pay the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey $290 million for a 92-year lease and $10 million to the World Trade Center foundation and the church at the same site.

Wheat Futures Climb as Rains Delay Harvest, Hurt Crops in Great Plains

(Bloomberg) -- Wheat prices rose in Chicago and
Kansas City after rainfall in the southern Great Plains hurt
plants and delayed the harvest.

As much as six times the normal amount of rain fell from
Texas to Nebraska in the past two weeks, National Weather
Service data showd. Oklahoma and Kansas growers, who would
normally start cutting wheat this week, may have to wait at
least 10 days, said Darrell Holaday, president of Advanced
Market Concepts in Manhattan, Kansas.
