Sudan assigns Chinese CNPC offshore oil block

(Reuters) - Sudan has signed a deal with Chinese state oil firm China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) to take a majority stake in its Block 13 exploration site, off the coast of the Red Sea, a senior Sudanese oil official said on Friday.

CNPC has a 40 percent stake, 15 percent for both Indonesian state firm and Sudanese state oil firm Sudapet.

China's CNPC signs exploration agreement with Sudan

(Reuters) - China's top state-run energy group, China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), has signed an agreement with the Sudanese government to prospect for oil and gas in Sudan's northern territory, a local newspaper said on Monday.

Under the agreement, CNPC would have exploration rights to 13 oil blocks located in the northern coast of the Red Sea. The fields have a total acreage of about 3.8 square kilometres, China Petroleum Daily reported.

Sudan says still in discussions to join OPEC

(Reuters) - Sudan's oil minister said on Monday the African producer was still in discussions to join OPEC, though he gave no timeframe for a decision.

"The decision is ours -- we're still working on it," said Awad Ahmed al-Jaz at the Asia Oil and Gas conference in Kuala Lumpur.
