Gold Falls on Concern Housing Report Signals Slowing Economy; Silver Falls

(Bloomberg) -- Gold fell from a three-month high in
New York on concern U.S. economic growth will slow, reducing
demand for precious metals as a hedge against inflation. Silver
futures also declined.

Purchases of new homes fell 6.6 percent in June, more than
economists predicted, and orders for durable goods unexpectedly
fell for a second month, the Commerce Department said today. Some
investors buy gold to preserve purchasing power in times of
accelerating price increases.

Gold Declines in London as Central Banks May Increase Sales; Silver Falls

(Bloomberg) -- Gold fell in London on speculation
European central banks will increase sales of the precious
metal. Silver also dropped.

The European Central Bank said yesterday three members of
the Eurosystem of national banks sold 288 million euros ($397
million) of gold last week, equal to about 18 metric tons and up
from 88 million euros the week before. European central banks
may sell 157.6 tons in the next nine weeks, or an average of
about 18 tons a week, according to World Gold Council figures.

Gold, Silver Futures Decline After U.S. Dollar's Slump Against Euro Stalls

(Bloomberg) -- Gold fell from a two-month high in
New York as the dollar's decline against the euro stalled,
reducing the appeal of the precious metal as alternative
investments. Silver also dropped.

The dollar rebounded from a record $1.3845 against the euro
as a price chart some investors use to predict currency
movements suggested the decline was too rapid. Before today,
gold has gained 7.3 percent this year, and the dollar slumped
4.8 percent against the euro.

Gold Trades in Asia Near a One-Month High on Dollar's Decline Versus Euro

(Bloomberg) -- Gold traded near a one-month high in
Asia as the dollar's decline boosted demand for the metal as an
alternative investment. Silver gained.

The dollar traded near a record low against the euro today
before U.S. reports on inflation and housing. Gold generally
moves in the opposite direction of the U.S. currency.

Gold, Silver Prices Drop in New York on Speculation Dollar to Halt Slide

(Bloomberg) -- Gold fell in New York as the dollar
halted a slide against the euro, eroding the appeal of the
precious metal as an alternative investment. Silver dropped.

Gold generally moves in the opposite direction of the
dollar, which rebounded against the euro after dropping to a
record. Before today, the metal had gained 4.1 percent this year
while the euro had climbed 4.2 percent against the dollar.

Gold Little Changed in Asia Amid Dollar Slump, Oil Gains; Silver Declines

(Bloomberg) -- Gold was little changed in Asia amid
demand from investors for an alternative to the weakening dollar
and for a hedge against inflation as oil prices trade near a 10-
month high. Silver declined.

Gold has gained almost 2 percent in the past week as the
dollar-priced metal has become cheaper to investors holding
other currencies. The dollar traded near a record low against
the euro today and near the lowest in 26 years versus the
British pound on prospects for higher European interest rates.

Gold Little Changed in Asia After Gaining on Dollar's Decline Against Euro

(Bloomberg) -- Gold was little changed in Asia after
gaining on the dollar's decline to near a record low against the
euro. Silver was unchanged.

Gold usually moves in the opposite direction to the dollar
as the U.S. currency's fall makes dollar-priced gold cheaper to
investors with other currencies. The precious metal was also
supported yesterday by oil's rise to a 10-month high.

Gold Advances After Dollar Rally Stalls; Silver Also Rises in London Trade

(Bloomberg) -- Gold rose in London, erasing an
earlier decline, as the dollar's rally against the euro stalled,
reviving demand for bullion as an alternative investment. Silver
also advanced.

Gold has added 1.9 percent this year as the dollar declined
2.2 percent against the euro. The dollar fell against the euro
today for the first day in a week.

Gold May Fall in London as Dollar Gains on U.S. Growth; Silver Declines

(Bloomberg) -- Gold may fall as expectations of U.S.
economic growth buoy the dollar, reducing demand for the precious
metal as an alternative investment. Silver declined for a second day.

Gold dropped the most since June 8 yesterday on speculation
higher U.S. bond yields will boost the dollar. The dollar gained
for a second day today before U.S. reports on manufacturing and
the future direction of the economy that are expected to signal
growth, Bloomberg surveys of economists show.

Gold Price Advances in Asia as Investors Bet Fall Overdone, Silver Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Gold gained in Asia as investors bet
yesterday's fall, its largest fall in four weeks, was overdone.
Silver also rose.

Gold generally moves in the opposite direction of the U.S.
dollar which yesterday advanced the most in three weeks versus
the euro on speculation the Federal Reserve will hold borrowing
costs steady. Gold yesterday fell $11.60, or 1.7 percent, its
biggest one-day fall since May 10.

Avaya faces up to $250 mln break-up fee

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, June 5 - Avaya Inc. agreed to pay up to $250 million to private equity firms TPG Capital and Silver Lake if Avaya, the telecommunications equipment maker, backs out of their acquisition deal, though analysts said Tuesday that a counterbid is not likely to emerge.



The $8.2 billion offer, announced on Monday, is expected to be completed in the fall of 2007, subject to approval by shareholders and regulators.

Gold Futures Pare Gains in New York on Central Bank Sales; Silver Rises

(Bloomberg) -- Gold in New York pared earlier gains
on speculation that central banks will increase bullion sales.
Silver rose.

European central banks will probably sell all 500 metric
tons of gold allowed under an agreement that goes through Sept.
26, UBS AG said in a report today. UBS previously forecast sales
of 400 tons. Gold gained 1.5 percent on June 1, partly because
the European Central Bank, one of the signatories of the accord,
said it won't sell more gold until September.

Gold Gains in Asia for Second Day as Investors Bet Recent Fall Overdone

(Bloomberg) -- Gold rose in Asia for a second day and
headed for its first weekly gain in four as investors bet the
recent fall may have been overdone. Silver also advanced.

Gold, which traded at a two-month low on May 24, yesterday
posted its largest one-day gain in four weeks as the dollar fell
against the euro after the government reported U.S. first quarter
economic growth the weakest in more than four years. Gold, viewed
by some as an alternative asset at times of dollar weakness,
reached an 11-month high of $694.25 an ounce April 23.

Gold Trades Little Changed Near Two-Month Low in Asia, Silver Declines

(Bloomberg) -- Gold was little changed near a two-
month low in Asia amid speculation holidays in the northern
hemisphere yesterday reduced investor demand for the precious
metal. Silver fell.

Gold yesterday traded in a range of $654.95 to $657.58, its
most narrow trading range since April 6, as investors lacked
direction from major markets in the U.S. and U.K. Gold traded at
a two-month low of $652.01 on May 24.

Gold Rises as Weaker Dollar, Higher Oil May Spur Demand; Silver Advances

(Bloomberg) -- Gold rose in London as higher energy
costs and a drop in the value of the dollar may revive investor
demand for the precious metal. Silver gained.

Gold has climbed 2.9 percent this year as the dollar dropped
against the euro and crude oil prices gained. Gold erased most of
today's earlier gain that was triggered by reports that North
Korea fired several missiles toward the Sea of Japan.

(Reuters) - The Democratic governor, who took office in January,
inherited thorny clashes over ground zero, including its
funding. World Trade Center Developer Larry Silverstein had
asked former Republican Gov. George Pataki to help him pressure
the insurers, whom he has taken to court several times.

Share prices are as of 9:30 a.m. New York time.

Accredited Home Lenders Holding Co. (LEND US) rose 90 cents,
or 7.1 percent, to $13.65 and traded as high as $13.89. Silver
Point Capital LP said in a regulatory filing that it boosted its
stake in the subprime mortgage company to 5.2 percent from 3.8
percent.

Gold Little Changed in Asia as Dollar Rises Against Yen; Silver Declines

(Bloomberg) -- Gold was little changed in Asia amid
speculation that a rise in the U.S. dollar against the Japanese
yen will erode investor demand for precious metals as an
alternative investment. Silver declined.

Bullion usually moves in the opposite direction to the
dollar. The U.S. currency rose to a three-month high versus the
yen yesterday as traders reduced bets the U.S. Federal Reserve
will cut interest rates this year.

Gold Declines as Rallying Stock Markets May Erode Demand; Silver Advances

(Bloomberg) -- Gold declined as rallying stock
markets may erode investor demand for the precious metal. Silver
gained.

Investor demand for gold fell 26 percent in the first
quarter from a year earlier, the producer-funded World Gold
Council said last week. Gold has dropped 3.9 percent the past two
weeks, the longest slide since December. The Dow Jones Industrial
Average has climbed for seven weeks to a record.
