UPDATE 1-Hanover Compressor Q2 earnings rise 20 percent

(Reuters) - Net income for the quarter increased to $26.1 million or 23
cents a share from $21.7 million or 21 cents a share, a year
ago. Analysts expected earnings of 18 cents a share, according
to Reuters Estimates.




Revenue rose 27 percent to $515.7 million, driven primarily
by its compressor and accessory fabrication segment, which
contributed more than a fourth of the company's revenue.

Sepracor results miss, cuts 2007 outlook

(Reuters) - The Marlborough, Massachusetts-based drug company said net profit fell to $6.1 million, or 5 cents a share, from $11 million, or 10 cents a share, a year ago.




Revenue rose 5 percent to $278.1 million. Analysts, on average, expected revenue of $327.2 million.

UPDATE 2-Ingersoll-Rand 2nd-quarter profit meets forecast

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 27 - Industrial conglomerate Ingersoll-Rand Co. Ltd. , in the midst of remaking its portfolio of businesses, reported higher quarterly profit on Friday, reflecting a large gain from discontinued operations.



The company also disclosed it received a notice from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, proposing adjustments to its past tax filings, and said it would contest the proposed adjustments.

UPDATE 1-Chartered Semi has 2nd-qtr loss on tax expense

(Reuters) - Chartered posted a second-quarter net loss of $27.1
million, or 11 cents per American Depositary share ,
compared with a year-ago profit of $10.5 million, or 4 cents
per ADS.




Revenue fell to $324.3 million from $364.8 million.

Compass, being bought by BBVA, says profit falls

(Reuters) - Revenue fell 1 percent to $466.3 million, as net interest
income declined 3 percent while noninterest income rose 4
percent. Compass set aside $38.3 million for loan losses, up 40
percent from a year earlier.




Adding Compass will give BBVA, Spain's second-largest bank,
415 new U.S. branches, tripling its U.S. branch base. Many of
Compass' branches are in fast-growing southern states with
large Spanish-speaking populations. The transaction is expected
to close later this year.

CEC Entertainment Q2 earnings fall

(Reuters) - Revenues for the quarter rose to $179.8 million from $176.2
million a year ago primarily due to new store development, the
company said.




Analysts' consensus view for earnings was 34 cents a share,
before items, on revenue of $184.3 million, according to
Reuters Estimates.

JetBlue reports stronger profit, will slow growth

(Reuters) - JetBlue reported net income of $21 million, or 11 cents per share, compared with $14 million, or 8 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 19.4 percent to $739 million.



The company also said it would further slow growth by deferring delivery of 16 Embraer 190 regional jet aircraft and selling three Airbus A320s.

Countrywide profit down 33 pct

(Reuters) - Shares of Countrywide fell as much as 8.7 percent to their lowest level since November 2005.




Second-quarter net income for the Calabasas, California-based company fell to $485.1 million, or 81 cents per share, from $722.2 million, or $1.15, a year earlier. Revenue fell 15 percent to $2.55 billion.

UPDATE 1-Mexico's GAP 2nd-qtr net profit rises 55 pct

(Reuters) - Revenue in the quarter rose 16.1 percent to 847 million
pesos, the company said on Monday.




GAP operates 12 airports in Mexico, including Guadalajara,
Tijuana, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

UPDATE 2-U.S. Bancorp profit falls more than expected

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 17 - U.S. Bancorp , the
sixth-largest U.S. bank, posted a bigger-than-expected drop in
quarterly profit on Tuesday, as lower lending income and rising
expenses and credit losses more than offset an increase in
fees.




Second-quarter net income for the Minneapolis-based company
fell to $1.16 billion, or 65 cents per share, from $1.2
billion, or 66 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 1.5 percent
to $3.51 billion.

Shoprite Holdings Full-Year Sales Rise 16 Percent on Consumer Spending

(Bloomberg) -- Shoprite Holdings Ltd., South Africa's
second-largest grocer, said annual sales gained 16 percent after
faster economic growth boosted consumer spending.

Sales in the 12 months through June 30 reached 38.9 billion
rand ($5.6 billion), compared with the year earlier, Cape Town-
based Shoprite said in a stock exchange statement today. Revenue at
the main Shoprite brand increased 14 percent while the Checkers
chain advanced 15 percent, the company said.

Resources Connection quarterly profit rises

(Reuters) - Revenue for the quarter rose 21 percent to $200.5 million.




For the latest fourth quarter, analysts were expecting
earnings of 31 cents a share, before exceptional items, on
revenue of $198.3 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

Alcoa shares slip after second-quarter earnings

(Reuters) - After the close of trading on Monday, the company posted earnings of $716 million, or 81 cents per share, from continuing operations, down from $749 million, or 85 cents per share, a year earlier, but in line with Wall Street expectations.




Revenue for the quarter was $8.1 billion, up from $7.8 billion last year, but below analysts' forecasts of $8.41 billion.

UPDATE 2-Schnitzer posts strong Q3 results, shares rise

(Reuters) - Shares of the metals recycler rose more than 17 percent, or
$9.01, to $61.33 in afternoon trade, after touching an all-time
high of $62.11 earlier, on the Nasdaq.




The company reported third-quarter net income of $43.8
million, or $1.47 a share, compared with $30.2 million, or 98
cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 40 percent to $709.4
million.

Moberg's Failure to Take on Wal-Mart in U.S. Leaves Ahold Shares Trailing

(Bloomberg) -- Departing Royal Ahold NV Chief
Executive Officer Anders Moberg cut debt by more than half, sold
assets and returned the retailer to profit after an accounting
scandal. His U.S. growth plan hasn't fared as well.

That leaves Moberg's successor -- as yet unnamed -- to boost
sales at U.S. supermarkets. Revenue growth at rival Kroger Co.,
the biggest U.S. supermarket company, is about eight times that
at Ahold's Stop & Shop chain.

Vimpelcom Q1 net profit $277.3 mln, beats expectations

(Reuters) - Revenues amounted to $1.488 billion, compared with $1.45
billion in the fourth quarter of last year and above an average
analysts' forecast of $1.46 billion.




Operating income before depreciation and amortisation
rose to $766.4 million from $689.8 million, while
analysts had expected it to be $719.3 million.
