Rockwell Collins profit up, shares off on outlook

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 26 - Rockwell Collins Inc. said on Thursday that quarterly profit rose a greater-than-expected 21 percent, helped by strong sales of its high-tech aerospace systems.



The company, which makes cockpit electronics and other plane parts for Boeing Co. and Airbus , also said full-year profit would probably be at the top end of its previous forecast as the global boom in aircraft production continues.

Stocks gain on profits, energy; Apple up late

(Reuters) - Boeing shares jumped to a record high and led advancers on the Dow, while Internet retailer Amazon.com Inc. paced the Nasdaq with a 24-percent rise after tripling its profit.




U.S. oil prices jumped to $75.88 a barrel after government data showed that crude stocks fell last week. Shares of energy companies followed, with Exxon Mobil Corp. rising 2.2 percent on the day to $92.79.

WRAPUP 5-US stocks mixed amid financing concerns, oil soars

(Reuters) - Shares of aircraft maker Boeing jumped to a record as the
stock led advances on the Dow Jones industrial average, while
Internet retailer Amazon.com shares soared more than 24 percent
to a 7-1/2-year high on Nasdaq.




U.S. stocks erased most of their early gains after news
that Chrysler had postponed a $12 billion auto loan deal.
Chrysler is raising cash to help fund a buyout by Cerberus

Precision Castparts profit rises on acquisitions

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 24 - Precision Castparts Corp. said on Monday quarterly profit nearly doubled, boosted by acquisitions and strong demand for its metal aerospace and industrial components.



The company, which makes engine parts and fasteners for planemakers Boeing Co. and the Airbus unit of EADS , reported a profit of $226.4 million, or $1.62 per share, for its fiscal first quarter. That compared with $115.1 million, or 84 cents per share, in the year-earlier quarter.

GLOBAL MARKETS-U.S. stocks mixed, oil hits 11-month high

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 9 - U.S. stocks were mixed on
Monday as a gain in shares of plane maker Boeing Co. was
countered by disappointing profit outlooks and concerns about
oil prices that hit an 11-month high.




The Dow Jones industrial average rose but a broader
Standard & Poor's 500 Index was slightly weaker. The Nasdaq
Composite Index, however, turned lower after briefly touching
its highest level in more than six years. Global stock markets
were mostly higher and Japan's Nikkei closed at a seven-year
high.

US STOCKS-Earnings optimism, Boeing push indexes up

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 9 - U.S. stocks rose on Monday at
the start of the earnings reporting season as investors bet
companies will beat profit forecasts following signs of
strength in the economy.




Positive broker comments on companies, including Google Inc
and Home Depot Inc , also added to the positive
tone, along with a rise in plane maker Boeing Co.

Boeing on track for record year

(Reuters) - Boeing took orders for 70 of its carbon-composite 787
Dreamliners in the April to June period, the first of which is
set to roll out of the company's Seattle-area plant for the
first time on Sunday.




Airlines also ordered 22 777 minijumbos and 136
single-aisle 737s.

Japanese Stocks May Climb, Led by Canon, Exporters; Komatsu May Advance

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks may gain after
declining U.S. bond yields eased concern that higher borrowing
costs will curb profit growth. Exporters such as Canon Inc. may
advance.

Machinery makers may also rise after the Nikkei newspaper
reported Boeing Co. agreed to help sell Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries Ltd's passenger jet. The newspaper also said Komatsu
Ltd. and Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. separately plan to
expand into the leasing business in China.

GE Shares Rise the Most in Three Years Following Upbeat Paris Airshow

(Bloomberg) -- General Electric Co. shares surged
the most since January 2004 amid expectations that profit from
selling commercial jet engines will increase because of plane
orders announced this week at the Paris Air Show.

Airbus SAS, the world's largest commercial-aircraft maker,
yesterday won $42.6 billion in contracts. Boeing Co., Airbus's
nearest rival, today announced an $8.8 billion order from
International Lease Finance Corp. GE is the world's largest
maker of jet engines.

UPDATE 2-Boeing CFO has upward, positive bias on outlook

(Reuters) - Speaking at the planemaker and defense contractor's annual
investor presentation in Chicago, which was broadcast over the
Internet, Boeing CFO James Bell acknowledged that Wall Street
analysts are generally expecting greater profit than the
company is forecasting.




He said Boeing would be "more comfortable in addressing"
its outlook after the first half of the year is over, possibly
heralding a rise in company profit forecasts in July.

Boeing arms chief warns against "peace dividend"

(Reuters) - It is also the lead contractor on the Future Combat Systems program -- a $200 billion push to turn the U.S. Army into a mobile, electronically linked force -- which Democrat-controlled Congress is looking to prune.




"We've got a change of leadership on Capitol Hill right now, they have different priorities, and there's even talk of a peace dividend," said James Albaugh, head of Boeing's defense unit, at the company's annual investor day.
