Stocks gain on profits, energy; Apple up late

(Reuters) - Boeing shares jumped to a record high and led advancers on the Dow, while Internet retailer Amazon.com Inc. paced the Nasdaq with a 24-percent rise after tripling its profit.




U.S. oil prices jumped to $75.88 a barrel after government data showed that crude stocks fell last week. Shares of energy companies followed, with Exxon Mobil Corp. rising 2.2 percent on the day to $92.79.

Crude Oil Falls From 11-Month High as Refiners Open Plants, Boost Output

(Bloomberg) -- Crude oil fell from an 11-month high
in New York on speculation that U.S. fuel stockpiles will
increase because refineries are opening units.

Exxon Mobil Corp., BP Plc and Valero Energy Corp. started
units at refineries in Texas over the past week. Prices rose 2.2
percent this week after the Energy Department reported that U.S.
fuel stockpiles declined last week as gasoline demand increased.
Total SA said it restored normal output from an oil field in
Angola after cutting production to make repairs.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Rise; Genentech, Yum! Brands Advance in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures advanced as
investors shrugged off concern about the housing market and bet
that second-quarter earnings will beat analyst estimates.

Genentech Inc., the world's biggest maker of cancer
medicines, and Yum! Brands Inc. gained before reporting results.
Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's biggest oil company, climbed in
Europe after Bear, Stearns & Co. raised its earnings estimates
for the biggest oil companies.

U.S. Stocks Rise, Led by Energy Shares; Oil Rises, Dollar Falls

(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. stock market posted its
first advance in four days after a rally in oil prices improved
earnings prospects for fuel producers and better-than-expected
profit at Oracle Corp. ignited shares of software makers.

Exxon Mobil Corp., Intel Corp. and Microsoft Corp. helped
carry the Standard & Poor's 500 Index to its biggest gain in two
weeks. Oracle, the world's third-largest software company,
jumped the most in three months after saying sales may grow 21
percent.

WRAPUP 1-Chavez drives Exxon, ConocoPhillips from Venezuela

(Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp. and ConocoPhillips decided
to quit their oil operations in the OPEC nation after they
failed to strike a deal with the government to stay in
multibillion-dollar projects that the anti-U.S. leader decreed
should be taken over.




Four other oil majors -- Chevron Corp. , Norway's
Statoil , Britain's BP Plc and France's Total
-- signed pacts that allow Venezuela to increase its
stake to at least 60 percent in projects worth $30 billion.

ConocoPhillips to Quit Venezuela Oil Projects as Talks Fail, Person Says

(Bloomberg) -- ConocoPhillips will quit Venezuela
after investing $2.5 billion in oil and natural gas projects as
talks about ownership failed, said a person on the government's
side of the negotiations.

Exxon Mobil Corp. will also leave, the Wall Street Journal
and Reuters reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the
government and company positions in the negotiations. Talks
could still restart, Reuters reported, citing the people.

US STOCKS-Indexes dip as energy stocks fall on crude

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, June 20 - U.S. stocks were trading
lower on Wednesday, nudged downward by heavily-weighted energy
shares which fell in-line with crude oil futures.




Exxon Mobil Corp. and Chevron Corp. were
the biggest drags on the S&P500 after weekly government data
showed a larger-than-expected build in crude supplies, which
sent crude futures down over 2 percent to $67.60 a
barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

U.S. Stocks Gain as Treasury Bonds Erase Losses; Target, Exxon Advance

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks gained after retail
sales jumped more than forecast and bond prices rose.

Target Corp., the second-biggest discount chain, and Home
Depot Inc., the largest home-improvement retailer, climbed.
Energy producers led by Exxon Mobil Corp. and ConocoPhillips
contributed the most to the increase in the Standard & Poor's
500 Index after oil prices advanced.

Inflation and interest-rate worries batter US indexes

(Reuters) - U.S. stocks fell sharply for a second day on Wednesday after data showing higher-than-expected labor costs stoked worries about inflation and interest rates.

Energy stocks such as Exxon Mobil Corp. fell and the sector was among the heaviest drags on the S&P 500 after government data showed gasoline stockpiles rose more than analysts had forecast.

Exxon Mobil, Enbridge May Build Pipeline to Bring Canadian Oil to Houston

(Bloomberg) -- Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's largest
oil company, and Enbridge Inc. are planning a pipeline to haul
crude from Alberta's tar sands to the heart of the U.S. refining
industry in Texas.

Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil and Calgary-based Enbridge
said the line would link a pipeline hub in Patoka, Illinois, to
Beaumont, Texas, and Houston. They declined to comment on the
possible cost. Such a project might cost $2 million per mile to
build, for a total cost of about $1.4 billion, said Steven Paget,
an analyst at FirstEnergy Capital Corp. who has an ``outperform''
rating on Enbridge shares and doesn't own any.

Most U.S. Stocks Climb on Takeovers; General Electric, Exxon Mobil Advance

(Bloomberg) -- Most U.S. stocks rose, extending a
seven-week advance, after $43.2 billion of announced deals added
to this year's record pace of mergers and acquisitions.

General Electric Co., Exxon Mobil Corp. and Merck & Co.
briefly led the S&P 500 above its March 24, 2000, peak. Alltel
Corp. rallied to its highest in almost eight years after Goldman
Sachs Group Inc. and TPG Inc. agreed to buy the fifth-biggest
U.S. wireless company for $24.7 billion.
