U.S. Stock-Index Futures Rise; Alcoa, GM , Akamai Technologies Advance

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures rose as
investors speculated the biggest weekly sell-off in more than
four years was excessive.

Alcoa Inc., the world's second-largest aluminum company, and
General Motors Corp. rose in Europe after their shares lost more
than 10 percent last week. Verizon Communications Inc. may be
active before the telephone service provider posts earnings.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Rise; IBM, Microsoft, Motorola Climb in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures gained as
investors speculated a flurry of second-quarter earnings reports
today will show profits are holding up amid an economic slowdown.

International Business Machines Corp. advanced in Europe
after the world's biggest computer-services company increased its
annual earnings forecast after beating analysts' quarterly
estimates. Microsoft Corp., the largest software maker, and
Motorola Inc., the second-biggest mobile-phone maker, rose before
posting earnings.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Fall; Bear Stearns, Intel, Pfizer Slide in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures declined
after Bear Stearns Cos. told investors there's little value left
in its two failed hedge funds and Intel Corp. and Yahoo! Inc.
said competition is reducing earnings.

Bear Stearns, the second-biggest underwriter of mortgage-
backed securities, retreated in Europe. Intel, the world's
largest computer-chip maker, and Yahoo, the most-visited U.S. Web
site, also fell. Pfizer Inc. shares slipped after the company
reported earnings that missed analysts' estimates.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Rise; Genentech, Yum! Brands Advance in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures advanced as
investors shrugged off concern about the housing market and bet
that second-quarter earnings will beat analyst estimates.

Genentech Inc., the world's biggest maker of cancer
medicines, and Yum! Brands Inc. gained before reporting results.
Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's biggest oil company, climbed in
Europe after Bear, Stearns & Co. raised its earnings estimates
for the biggest oil companies.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Gain After Inflation Measure Matches Forecasts

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures advanced
after a government report showed a measure of inflation matched
forecasts last month.

A gauge of consumer prices excluding food and energy gained
0.1 percent in May, the same as the previous month and
economists' estimates. Federal Reserve policy makers yesterday
said they continue to view inflation as the main threat to the
economy as they held the benchmark lending rate at 5.25 percent
for an eighth meeting.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Advance; Bear Stearns, Apple, Google Shares Climb

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures advanced
after oil prices fell and concerns eased that losses tied to
subprime mortgages will hurt banks' earnings.

Bear Stearns Cos. climbed after a Lehman Brothers analyst
said the investment bank's bailout of a money-losing hedge fund
won't hurt its earnings. Apple Inc., maker of the iPod music
player, and Google Inc., the world's most popular Internet search
engine, gained after brokerages recommended buying the shares.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Fall; Home Depot, Microchip Decline in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures fell before
a housing report that may show the real-estate slump will
continue to weigh on economic growth.

Home Depot Inc., the world's largest home-improvement chain,
slipped in Europe. Microchip Technology Inc. dropped after the
maker of microcontrollers and analog chips cut its fiscal first-
quarter sales forecast.

U.S. Stock Futures Gain as Treasuries Erase Losses; Merrill Shares Advance

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures gained
after Treasury bonds erased losses following a decline that
earlier pushed yields on 10-year notes to the highest in more
than five years.

Merrill Lynch & Co., the world's biggest brokerage, and
Wachovia Corp., the fourth-biggest U.S. bank, advanced in
trading in Europe.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Decline; Texas Instrument Retreats in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures fell after
Texas Instruments Inc., the world's biggest maker of mobile-phone
chips, said second-quarter sales and profit will be below its
highest estimates.

Texas Instruments declined in Germany. Shares of Lehman
Brothers Holdings Inc., which didn't trade in Europe, may move
before an earnings statement from the first of Wall Street's
biggest firms to report.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Advance; Qualcomm, National Semiconductor Rise

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures gained as
investors said the economic and earnings outlook makes shares a
good buy following this week's equities sell-off.

Qualcomm Inc., the world's second-biggest maker of mobile-
phone chips, increased in Europe after a trade agency said its
chips can continue to be sold in phone models already on the
market. National Semiconductor Corp. surged after the company
reported profit that beat analysts' estimates.
