Apple Shares Decline on Signs IPhone Sales, Demand May Be Disappointing

(Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc. shares fell as much as 5
percent on signs that demand for the new iPhone may fail to meet
investors' expectations.

Activations from AT&T Inc., the exclusive carrier for the
iPhone, are a ``disappointment,'' Piper Jaffray & Co. analyst
Gene Munster said today. Apple probably sold 200,000 of the
devices in the quarter that ended in June, he said.

IHOP says to buy Applebee's for $2.1 billion

(Reuters) - Excluding charges related to the acquisition, IHOP expects the transaction to add to earnings beginning in 2008.




IHOP, which franchises almost all of its restaurants, said it believes it can re-energize Applebee's by franchising a substantial majority of Applebee's 508 company-operated restaurants.

Asian stocks dip after U.S. data

(Reuters) - The Institute for Supply Management's services index rose to its highest level in a year in June, while a report from ADP Employer Services pointed to robust jobs growth, leading market participants to believe that U.S. payrolls data due later on Friday will be better than expected.




The news pushed the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield up to 5.15 percent from around 5.06 percent early on Thursday, sending the blue-chip Dow down a touch. But the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index added 0.4 percent, helped by a rally in Apple Inc. .

Vodafone weighs on FTSE before rate verdict

(Reuters) - Britain's top share index fell on Thursday as losses in heavyweight Vodafone and a widely anticipated rate rise by the Bank of England outweighed gains in miners.

Vodafone, which until recently was the favourite to win a pan-European iPhone deal with Apple, fell 1.3 percent after UK newspapers said rival O2, a unit of Spain's Telefonica, was poised to clinch a deal to be the exclusive network partner for the much-hyped phone in the UK.

U.S. Stocks Advance on Factory Orders, Takeovers; Wendy's, Apple Climb

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks gained for a second day
after factory orders fell less than forecast and $8.5 billion
of takeovers spurred speculation that mergers and acquisitions
will extend the rally.

Wendy's International Inc., the third-biggest hamburger
chain, advanced the most in two months after billionaire
investor Nelson Peltz said he may make a bid for the company.
Apple Inc. jumped to a record and Oracle Corp. reached a six-
year high in trading that ended at 1 p.m. before the
Independence Day holiday.

Apple iPhone margins 55 pct, shares rise: ISuppli

(Reuters) - In January, iSuppli, which does not include costs for royalties and logistics, said it had estimated a $264.85 hardware and manufacturing cost for the eight-gigabyte device.




Apple shares rose $4.42 or almost 4 percent to $125.68 on Nasdaq after the news. Shares of AT&T Inc. , the exclusive U.S. service provider for the phone, were down 35 cents at $41.50 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Apple, DTE Energy, Lions Gate, Seaspan, Theravance: U.S. Equity Preview

(Bloomberg) -- The following is a list of companies
whose shares may have unusual price changes in U.S. exchanges
tomorrow. This preview includes news that broke after exchanges
closed. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names.

Apple Inc. (AAPL US) shares rose as much as $1.62, or 1.3
percent, to $123.66 in extended trading. The U.S. debut of the
iPhone drew thousands of shoppers over the weekend, emptying most
of AT&T Inc.'s inventory and causing network glitches as the
flood of customers began activating the device. Shoppers snapped
up as many as 200,000 iPhones the first day after the device went
on sale June 29, according to Global Equities Research.

U.S. Stocks Advance on Signs of Economic Growth, Slowdown in Inflation

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks gained after reports
showed the economy is expanding without spurring inflation and
Research In Motion Ltd. and Apple Inc. rallied on growing
demand for their mobile devices.

Research In Motion, the maker of the BlackBerry e-mail
phone, surged after it reported first-quarter earnings that
topped analysts' estimates. Apple Inc. climbed on the day its
iPhone goes on sale in the U.S.

Apple IPhone Buzz Takes On `Life of Its Own,' Topping Mustang, Windows 95

(Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc.'s campaign to build
excitement about its iPhone may be the most successful marketing
effort ever, surpassing the drive to promote Ford Motor Co.'s
1964 Mustang and Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 95.

The combination mobile phone and music player has generated
more pre-sale media coverage than any other product, says Al
Ries, chairman of Ries & Ries, an Atlanta marketing strategy
firm. Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at JupiterResearch in New
York, estimates Apple will spend about $100 million on the
introduction, roughly half what Microsoft spent for Windows 95.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Advance; Bear Stearns, Apple, Google Shares Climb

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures advanced
after oil prices fell and concerns eased that losses tied to
subprime mortgages will hurt banks' earnings.

Bear Stearns Cos. climbed after a Lehman Brothers analyst
said the investment bank's bailout of a money-losing hedge fund
won't hurt its earnings. Apple Inc., maker of the iPod music
player, and Google Inc., the world's most popular Internet search
engine, gained after brokerages recommended buying the shares.

Asian Stocks Fall for a Third Day on U.S. Spending Concern; Toyota Drops

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks fell for a third day on
concern a slump in U.S. housing will curb spending in the
region's biggest export market.

Toyota Motor Corp., which made almost two-thirds of its
sales outside Japan last year, and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.,
whose customers include Apple Inc., led declines after sales of
previously owned homes fell to the lowest in almost four years.

AT&T May Gain 915,000 Wireless Subscribers From Supplying Apple's IPhone

(Bloomberg) -- AT&T Inc. may gain as many as 915,000
new customers in the second half of this year as the sole
wireless service provider of Apple Inc.'s new iPhone, according
to Bear Stearns & Co.

Shares of San Antonio-based AT&T, the largest U.S. phone
company, added 68 cents, or 1.7 percent, to $40.66 at 12:23 p.m.
in New York Stock Exchange Composite trading.

Apple, Ford Motor, Medivation, Netflix, Tyson Foods: U.S. Equity Preview

(Bloomberg) -- The following is a list of companies
whose shares may have unusual price changes in U.S. exchanges.
This preview includes news that broke after exchanges closed June

Apple Inc. (AAPL US) rose $1.61, or 1.3 percent, to $126.10
in trading before the open of U.S. exchanges. The Financial Times
reported that the maker of the iPod music player is in talks with
some of Hollywood's largest studios to start an online film
rental service. The service would help Apple compete for
customers with cable and satellite television companies, the
newspaper said. Apple representatives didn't immediately return
phone calls from Bloomberg made before regular business hours.

Restaurant stocks poised for lackluster summer

(Reuters) - The Dow Jones restaurants and bars index , though up 1.6 percent on Friday afternoon, has dropped about 3.3 percent since hitting a lifetime high on May 22 as restaurant companies including Chili's parent Brinker International Inc. , Panera Bread Co. , Outback Steakhouse parent OSI Restaurant Partners Inc. and Applebee's International Inc. reported disappointing May same-store sales.




"The summer doldrums appear to be setting in early this year," Morgan Keegan analyst Bob Derrington said in a note this week. "High gasoline prices remain a drain on consumer spending and restaurant usage."
