European stocks extend losses on credit worries

(Reuters) - European stocks extended their losses late on Monday, dropping 1 percent in choppy trade on persistent worries over the crisis in the credit market while shares of oil giants dropped along with crude prices.

At 1503 GMT, the pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index was down 1 percent, at 1,502.62, a level not seen since March.

GLOBAL MARKETS-US jobs data hit stocks, dollar, boost bonds

(Reuters) - LONDON, Aug 3 - Stocks and the dollar fell while
safe-haven government bonds rallied on Friday after
weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs data fanned concerns about a U.S.
economy already struggling with credit liquidity fears.




U.S. stock futures pointed to a weaker open on Wall Street
while European stocks moved deeper in negative territory
after data showed U.S. employers boosted payrolls in July at the
slowest pace since February, adding 92,000 jobs.

European, Asian Stocks Rise on Speculation Credit Worries Were Overdone

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks rebounded from a
five-day slide, while Asian shares climbed for a second day as
investors speculated declines have left global equities cheap
relative to prospects for earnings growth.

Aviva Plc, HSBC Holdings Plc and UBS AG led gains by
financial stocks in Europe. GlaxoSmithKline Plc, the region's
second-largest drugmaker, jumped after a panel of medical
specialists said its Avandia drug should remain on the U.S.
market. Olympus Corp. and Hang Seng Bank Ltd. paced gains in Asia
after the companies reported higher earnings.

European Stocks Rise, Paced by Aviva, UBS, GlaxoSmithKline, BHP Billiton

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks advanced for the
first time in six days on speculation shares have become cheap
relative to prospects for earnings growth.

Aviva Plc, HSBC Holdings Plc and UBS AG led financial stocks
higher. GlaxoSmithKline Plc, the region's second-largest
drugmaker, rose after a panel of medical specialists said its
Avandia drug should remain on the U.S. market. BHP Billiton Ltd.
and Rio Tinto Group gained on higher copper prices.

European Stocks Advance, Led by Imperial Chemicals, Linde; IKB Tumbles

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks rose for the first
time in five days, led by Imperial Chemical Industries Plc after
the company rejected a bid from Dutch rival Akzo Nobel NV.

Linde AG, the world's largest maker of industrial gases,
also gained after reporting earnings that topped analysts'
estimates. BHP Billiton Ltd. and Rio Tinto Group led mining
shares higher as copper increased.

European Stocks Advance; SAP, Roche Holding and Vodafone Pace the Gains

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks rose for the first
time in three days, led by technology companies after Germany's
SAP AG and International Business Machines Corp. of the U.S.
reported earnings and sales that beat analysts' estimates.

Shares of Roche Holding AG rallied on better-than-expected
profit for the world's biggest maker of cancer medicine. Vodafone
Group Plc gained after the world's largest mobile-phone company
increased subscribers.

European Stocks May Advance; SAP, Roche Holding May Gain on Earnings

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks may rise for the
first time in three days, led by technology companies after
Germany's SAP AG and International Business Machines Corp. of the
U.S. reported earnings and sales that beat analysts' estimates.

Shares of Roche Holding AG will probably advance after the
world's biggest maker of cancer medicine reported an increase in
profit for the first-half.

European Stocks Fall for First Time in Four Days; Total, BHP Pace Declines

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks dropped for the first
time in four days, led by oil companies after ING Groep NV cut its
recommendation on shares of Repsol YPF, Statoil ASA and Total SA.

BHP Billiton Ltd., the world's biggest mining company,
dropped after Deutsche Bank AG downgraded the stock. Tate & Lyle
Plc, the maker of the sweetener Splenda, climbed after Goldman,
Sachs & Co. advised investors to buy the shares.

European Stocks May Fall; Volkswagen, Lufthansa, Rio Tinto Might Decline

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks may decline for the
first time in three days as crude oil traded near an 11-month
high. U.S.-traded securities of Volkswagen AG, the region's
biggest carmaker, and airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG slipped.

Rio Tinto Group, the world's third-largest mining company,
dropped in Australia after Citigroup Inc. cut its recommendation
on the shares. Royal Philips Electronics NV may be active after
saying second-quarter profit rose fivefold.

Central European Benchmark Indexes Advance, Led by PKN Orlen, CEZ Shares

(Bloomberg) -- Central European stocks including PKN
Orlen SA gained. Poland's largest oil refiner said it may sell
its stake in a mobile-phone company within a year.

Intercell AG dropped after Goldman, Sachs & Co. recommended
selling shares of the Austrian biotechnology company.

European Stocks Fall on Rate Concern; E.ON, Iberdrola, Vodafone Lead Drop

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks fell for the first
time in three days, led by utilities and phone companies, on
concern central banks will continue to raise interest rates.

E.ON AG, the world's largest utility by sales, Iberdrola SA,
Spain's second-biggest power company, and Vodafone Group Plc
paced the decline. Deutsche Telekom AG dropped after a report
Europe's largest phone company is struggling to find a partner
for its T-Systems computing-services division.

European Stocks Rise, Led by Energy, Mining Shares; BP, BHP, Nestle Gain

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks rose for the first time
in six days as higher commodity prices lifted energy and mining
companies and Citigroup Inc. said shares in the region are cheap.

BP Plc, Europe's second-biggest oil producer, and BHP
Billiton Ltd., the world's largest mining company, advanced.
Nestle SA increased after Deutsche Bank AG recommended buying
stock in the food company. Groupe Danone rose on a report the
yogurt maker will likely sell its LU cookies division.

European Stocks May Decline, Paced by Barclays, BNP Paribas, BAE Systems

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks may decline as U.S.
equities retreated for a second day. Barclays Plc, Britain's
third-largest bank, and BNP Paribas SA, France's biggest, may
decline after their U.S.-traded securities dropped.

Iberdrola SA may be active after the Spanish power company
agreed to buy U.S.-based Energy East Corp. for $4.5 billion. Shares
of Roche Holding AG may move after the company offered to buy
Ventana Medical Systems Inc. of the U.S. for about $3 billion.

European Stocks Decline; France Telecom, LSE, Akzo Nobel Shares Slide

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks dropped for a third
day, led by France Telecom SA as the French government sells as
much as 3.8 billion euros ($5.1 billion) of the nation's largest
phone company.

London Stock Exchange Group Plc, which agreed to buy Borsa
Italiana SpA on June 23 for 1.63 billion euros ($2.2 billion),
paced the decline after the bourse was put on review by Moody's
Investors Services for a possible downgrade of its debt rating.

European Stocks Drop on Concern Higher Rates, Oil Prices May Hurt Earnings

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks dropped on
speculation increasing borrowing costs and higher oil prices
will weigh on corporate earnings.

Retail shares fell after Tesco Plc, the U.K.'s largest
supermarket operator, predicted a ``tougher year'' because of
rising interest rates and growing competition. Air France-KLM
Group and British Airways Plc, among the most sensitive to
changes in the price of oil, led travel and leisure stocks to
the lowest in more than two months.

European Commodity Stocks, Rio Tinto, Total May Advance; RWE May Decline

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks may gain for a third
day, led by mining and energy companies as prices for copper and
aluminum advanced and oil traded near a nine-month high.

Rio Tinto Group, the world's third-largest mining company,
rose in Australian trading. U.S.-traded securities of Total SA,
Europe's largest refiner, ended higher than their close in France.

European shares retreat on global rate concerns

(Reuters) - European stocks fell on Wednesday, mirroring losses in U.S. and Asian markets as government bond yields hovered near five-year highs and stoked worries of higher borrowing costs.

Financials including ING and Allianz were among the biggest negative weights in the FTSEurofirst 300 index. Among gainers, British bank Alliance & Leicester added 1.5 percent after it issued an upbeat trading update.

day on concern rising bond yields will undermine profit growth
and erode demand for equities.

Allianz SE and British Energy Group Plc led declines by

European Stocks Drop on Bond Yields; Anglo American, Rio Tinto Decline

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks declined for a fifth
day, the longest rout in three months, after rising bond yields
weighed on equities in the U.S. and Asia.

Anglo American Plc led mining shares lower after copper
slid. BNP Paribas SA paced advancing stocks after Les Echos
reported Societe Generale SA is studying a possible bid for its
larger banking rival.
