European stocks extend losses on credit worries

(Reuters) - European stocks extended their losses late on Monday, dropping 1 percent in choppy trade on persistent worries over the crisis in the credit market while shares of oil giants dropped along with crude prices.

At 1503 GMT, the pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index was down 1 percent, at 1,502.62, a level not seen since March.

ICI, Sainsbury, Morgan Sindall, Standard Life: U.K., Irish Stock Preview

(Bloomberg) -- The following stocks may rise or fall

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index lost 76.00, or 1.2 percent, to
6224.30. The FTSE All-Share Index declined 34.49, or 1.1 percent,

FTSE 100 Rallies Most in 14 Months, Paced by GlaxoSmithKline, Lloyds TSB

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks rose for the first time
in six days as profit reports from Lloyds TSB Group Plc and
SABMiller Plc reassured investors that earnings growth will be
sustained. The FTSE 100 Index rallied the most in 14 months.

GlaxoSmithKline Plc advanced after a panel of U.S. doctors
voted to keep the company's diabetes pill Avandia on the market.
Alliance & Leicester Plc rallied on takeover speculation.

GLOBAL MARKETS-Risk aversion sweeps across markets

(Reuters) - Both moves indicated that investors were pulling away from
riskier assets.




The FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares
ignored good earnings reports and fell 1.4 percent and Wall
Street looked set for a poor start.

FTSE down early; Johnson Matthey weighs on miners

(Reuters) - Britain's top share index fell early on Tuesday, led by Johnson Matthey, which extended its recent fall due to persistent worries of a delay to a partner's key drug.

At 0842 GMT, Britain's FTSE 100 was down 0.3 percent at 6,605.5 points as investors took profits after an M&A-driven gain of 0.6 percent on Monday.

RLPC-Investors mull proposed changes to Boots loan

(Reuters) - The deal will also add an interest cover covenant to the
covenant lite loan to offer additional protection to investors
spooked by a steep sell-off in the debt markets in recent
weeks, sources told Reuters Loan Pricing Corporation.




KKR [KKR.UL] and Boots [AB.UL] Deputy Chairman Stefano
Pessina agreed in April to buy the retailer for 11.1 billion
pounds in Europe's biggest-ever private equity
deal and the first of a FTSE 100 company.

FTSE down on US subprime woes; Sainsbury rises

(Reuters) - Britain's top share index fell 0.7 percent early on Wednesday on rising concerns over risky U.S. subprime mortgages, but Sainsbury rose after receiving a bid approach.

At 0735 GMT, the FTSE 100 was down 48.2 points, or 0.72 percent at 6,610.9, after slipping 0.6 percent in the previous session on concerns of higher UK interest rates. European shares also fell.

U.K. FTSE 100 Index Advances, Paced by BP, Shell; BHP Billiton Shares Gain

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks climbed. BP Plc and Royal
Dutch Shell Plc rose on a positive research note from Deutsche
Bank AG. Shares of BHP Billiton also gained.

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index climbed 31.10, or 0.5 percent,
to 6666.30 at 12:07 p.m. in London. The FTSE All-Share Index rose
0.4 percent to 3443.06. Ireland's ISEQ Index jumped 0.7 percent
to 9419.92.

(Bloomberg) -- The following stocks may rise or fall

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index declined 37.909, or 0.6
percent, to close at 6635.20 in London as 25 stocks rose, 73 fell

U.K. Stocks Gain, Paced by InterContinental, Whitbread, Punch Taverns

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks rose, paced by
InterContinental Hotels Group Plc, Whitbread Plc and Punch
Taverns Plc after U.S.-based Hilton Hotels Corp. agreed to be
taken private.

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index gained 15.70, or 0.2 percent,
to 6655.50 in London at 8:14 a.m. The FTSE All-Share Index added
5.08, or 0.2 percent, to 3432.37. Ireland's ISEQ Index rose 22.77
to 9389.53.

U.K. Stocks Rise, Paced by SHares of Kazakhmys, Yell Group, Enterprise

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks advanced, paced by
Kazakhmys Plc as copper gained. Yell Group Plc and Enterprise
Inns Plc climbed.

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index rallied 35.7, or 0.5 percent,
to 6626.3 in London at 8:05 a.m. The FTSE All-Share Index added
19.57, or 0.6 percent, to 3416.34. Ireland's ISEQ Index rose
65.17 to 9387.73.

Europe shares fall as Nokia slides, bonds in focus

(Reuters) - European shares fell on Thursday as a rise in government bond yields hit Wall Street overnight while Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia slid after a downgrade from Goldman Sachs.

At 07:15 GMT the pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index fell 0.3 percent to 1,615.00 points, after a 1.4 percent slide in the Standard & Poor's 500 index on Wednesday as benchmark U.S. Treasury yields broke back above 5.00 percent.

FTSE 100 Stocks Gain, Paced by Sainsbury; Morrison, Tesco Shares Advance

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks rose for the third
day. J Sainsbury Plc led shares of retail companies higher
after a Qatar-backed fund increased its stake in the
supermarket chain.

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index added 39.5, or 0.6
percent, to 6689.4 in London at 12:09 p.m. The FTSE All-
Share Index gained 1.4 percent to 3435.94. Ireland's ISEQ
Index rose 1.1 percent to 9611.55.

European shares set to jump as global stocks bounce

(Reuters) - Soaring bond yields had raised concerns that higher borrowing costs would slow takeover activity and profit growth -- two engines of the market's spring rally.




Financial bookmakers expect UK's FTSE 100 index to gain 0.4 percent, Germany's DAX is seen up 0.8 percent and France's CAC is seen rising 0.7 percent.

European shares retreat on global rate concerns

(Reuters) - European stocks fell on Wednesday, mirroring losses in U.S. and Asian markets as government bond yields hovered near five-year highs and stoked worries of higher borrowing costs.

Financials including ING and Allianz were among the biggest negative weights in the FTSEurofirst 300 index. Among gainers, British bank Alliance & Leicester added 1.5 percent after it issued an upbeat trading update.

UK stocks rebound, boosted by Centrica and Barclays

(Reuters) - A jump in British utility Centrica and bank Barclays on Monday helped UK stocks regain some of the ground they lost the previous week on the prospect of higher interest rates.

At 0813 GMT, the FTSE was up 0.6 percent, having lost about 2.4 percent the previous week when the possibility of further monetary tightening drove benchmark U.S. bond yields above 5.25 percent.

European shares extend losses on Bernanke comments

(Reuters) - European shares extended losses on Tuesday after comments by U.S. Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke flagged risks to U.S. economic growth but held out little chance of a rate cut to offset them.

The FTSEurofirst 300 slipped to trade down 0.55 percent at 1,613.12 points, well off its day high of 1,625.87.

U.K. FTSE 100 Index Falters as Standard Charter, InterContinental Retreat

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks erased gains as Standard
Charter Plc and InterContinental Hotels Group Plc declined. BHP
Billiton paced advancing shares.

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index retreated 4.6, or 0.1 percent,
to 6659.5 in London at 12:22 p.m. The index rose as much as 0.3
percent earlier. The FTSE All-Share Index slipped 2.78, or 0.1
percent, to 3455.9. Ireland's ISEQ Index declined 196.72, or 2
percent, to 9766.72.
